Our Story

We are a 501 (c)(3) Non-Profit Cat Rescue Located In Maple Shade, NJ

Quirky Cat Club is dedicated to providing support, shelter and good, old-fashioned "love and care" to at-risk felines in need of a second chance. We aim to do this by way of rescue, foster, adoption, re-homing, and community support, among other means. Our overall goal is simple. We want cats to have a safe, comfortable and loving home and we will do all that we can to ensure this is a possibility.

My name is Anna Marie Brady and I am the Founder and President of Quirky Cat Club. My work in rescue began in 2015 after a beloved kitten of mine named Harrison passed away from FIP in August of that year. The first place I started volunteering at was PAWS in Philadelphia - in both their maternity and adoptable cat sections. It was there that I learned to care for the tiniest of kittens and also gained experience in handling and caring for cats of all shapes, sizes, and temperment.

As much as I loved my volunteer work, I quickly decided that I wanted to do something a little more personal to help out the local cat community and that is where Harrison's Halfway House came into fruition. My husband and I set up a room in our house where we could foster cats from local rescues until a forever home for them was found - we did this for many years while living in Philadelphia, Pa.

To tell you how Quirky Cat Club came to be I have to go back to 2016, when a good friend of mine passed away. After her passing I took in one of her cats named Wilbur. He was this big, goofy ginger guy, and from the minute I met him, he absolutely stole my heart. Over the years we developed such a deep and special bond that I began to refer to him as my "Soul Cat". He was honestly one of the best friends I have ever had and to this day I don't think I will ever be blessed with a cat like him again. He was perfect - definitely a once in a lifetime type of cat. Wilbur sadly passed away from feline cancer in January of 2020. It was very sudden and very traumatizing. His passing absolutely broke me, and while I doubt I will ever fully get over losing him, I am now doing something to honor him. Quirky Cat Club came from my love of him and my need to help cats like him, who find themselves displaced or orphaned through no fault of their own.

Quirky Cat Club is a specialized, feline-only, rescue organization. We do not operate a cat rescue in the usual sense. Here, we understand the special needs of cats that were never unwanted but have been essentially orphaned. Our priority to carefully transition cats, especially older ones, that are used to a secure and loving home, and give them the next best thing when their owner passes away, must enter a hospice or nursing home, or can no longer care for them. We do not use cages. Instead, we use foster homes to shelter these cats in need until perfect new homes are found. We also provide these cats with medical care, including vaccinations, spaying or neutering, and treatment for any illnesses or injuries. We hope someday to open a "Club House" location - The Club House would house both our adoptable cats and those elderly felines or kitties with chronic health conditions or disabilities for the remainder of their lives.

Due to the nature of our mission, when you adopt a cat from us, you are doing a very special thing. Have you ever heard the saying, “You can’t miss something you never had?” Well, all of our cats had a good life and loving home, but lost it all when their owner fell ill, passed away, or caring for them became no longer an option. If you are like us and believe cats are intelligent creatures, then you know they grieve the loss of a beloved person just as we humans do. Sometimes, they can refuse to eat and even will themselves to die. By adopting a cat from Quirky Cat Club, you are giving a kitty that has suffered a great loss, a second chance to know what it feels like to curl up in the lap of a person they can love and trust. And I can't think of anything better than that!

Now, obviously there are always an assortment of situations that arise. People may drop off kittens they found in a box. Or we cross paths with a friendly stray or an injured cat. We will of course do everything in our power to help them. While our initial purpose is the older, needier, miscast feline friends who are facing desperation, as cat lovers, we can't limit ourselves to just that one specific group, when needy cats come in all shapes, sizes, ages, and environments. As catlovers, we all know it is impossible to save EVERY cat that needs it. But we aren't going to let that stop us from trying!

In addition to rescuing cats, our organization is committed to promoting responsible pet ownership and educating the public about the importance of making future plans for your beloved pets and the importance of spaying and neutering. We believe that by working together, we can reduce the number of homeless cats and ensure that every cat has a loving home, even when the unthinkable happens and you can no longer care for them yourself.
